Are we there yet?
If you are going away these holidays and know you will be hearing the dreaded “are we there yet” here are 10 ideas on how to keep your kids entertained in the car.
Leave before a meal time, and let them eat in the car…this always helps pass time, if they are messy eaters…mmm maybe not and at all costs avoid anything that melts!
Have snacks they wouldn’t normally get, so when you start hearing…”are we there yet” a snack will help distract them for a little while.
The old eye spy – is a great time filler.
Have some songs ready to go and have a sing-a-long, or a karaoke session - great for some family bonding.
Screens, well yes, this is a great way to pass time, however, batteries only last so long!
Counting cars, everyone chooses a different colour – the first person to get to 30 (your choice of how many) of that colour – wins. Hint – go for white
Have a heap of pipe cleaners and get each child to make something. The others have to guess what it is.
Set up a shoe box surprise for each child – filled with their favorite little toys, cards, and other items, they can then use the box lid to play on, lean on if drawing. You could get them to decorate the box with stickers, so it makes it their own and they can use it while on holidays.
Have a few surprise gift-wrapped presents in the box. Stock up on small items at $2 shop – this will be a winner.
Play ‘Who am I’ – Player 1 needs to think of a person, place, or thing, and let everyone take a turn to ask them a “yes” or “no” question until someone guesses what they are thinking of. It’s a fun and easy way to keep kids busy!
We hope this gives you some ideas and a more enjoyable drive to your holiday destination.
Safe driving and safe holidays.
